About Us
Las Palapas - Giving Back to
the Community
In 1981 Las
Palapas was founded by Ron Acosta. He began with one restaurant located
at
Central Park Mall and an
idea to serve fresh Mexican cuisine with a taste of California
mixed in with
Texas. Over the years, Las Palapas has
grown to 11 locations, with some
being franchises and some owned corporately.
During different
seasons of Rons life many people have reached out to help him.
Because of this,
Ron has been
especially motivated to help others during time of need.
Annually, Las Palapas
gives scholarships to local
High Schools. This year 12 High
Schools will benefit from scholarships totaling
over $20,000. Las Palapas
also
supports many local school clubs and association activities, along with
fundraising
events for
churches and research foundations.
Additionally, Ron
and his wife Elssy founded the Jireh Foundation,
to assist in caring
for widows and orphans.
Throughout the city of San Antonio, there are widows
and orphans that the
Jireh Foundation helps support
financially on a monthly basis.
Las Palapas also assists many other non-profit
organizations and businesses
in the San Antonio community.
Las Palapas began
closing on Sunday to allow employees time with families and an
opportunity to
worship
if they so desire. According to Ron, honoring God is not just
about closing on
Sundays it is about identifying
people everyday with needs and then
doing what you can to help them. Ron
attributes his success to the
grace of God.
